José Jardim MD

 

Who I am

José Jardim graduated in medicine in 1970 at the currently Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil. He took three years of residence in the same Medical School, obtained his Ph Degree in Medical Sciences in 1977, and in the same year went to McGill University, Montreal, Canada, for a two years fellowship in respiratory pathophysiology under the mentorship of Peter Macklem MD and Charis Roussos MD. Currently he is an Assistant Professor of Respiratory Diseases at the Federal University of São Paulo, and his main interests are COPD and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.  

He has been the Director of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center of the same University since 1990 and Medical Director of Lar Escola São Francisco, a rehabilitation center affiliated to his University during the past five years. This Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center receives doctors and physiotherapists for training from several Universities of Brazil as well from Latin America countries. Currently he is a member of the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Committee of the Brazilian Thoracic Society (SBPT), where he has served as President of this same Committee three times, and is a member of the Planning Committee of the Rehabiltation Assembly of American Thoracic Society. In the past, he has been President of the Latin American Thoracic Society (ALAT) for two terms and has served one term at the Board of Directors of American Thoracic Society representing the International Community.
