Who I am
I am a Clinical Research Fellow at the Peninsula Medical School and lead the
Respiratory Research Unit. I have research interests in psychological factors in COPD,
pulmonary rehabilitation, compiance and self management. I am funded by the Dept of Health,
Researcher Development Award.
My role in the development of the scale
My role in developing LINQ came from my awareness that the greatest problem facing
patients with COPD was lack of information about the disease and how to help patients
to help themselves.
My current role and the reason why people should contact me
I have an interest in COPD and am currently employed as a General Practitioner with a special
clinical interest in COPD in Plymouth . I chair the COPD pathways group which co-ordinates
integrated services between the hospital and general practice and I run the Plymouth pulmonary
rehabilitation programme. I can be contacted about the clinical use of LINQ- either for measuring:
- individual patient's information needs in a clinical environment
- the impact of services such as self management education, pulmonary rehabilitation
- the value of existing services such as patients attending outpatient clinics or in primary care
I can advise on using LINQ as an outcome measure in COPD research.
